
Babak Bayat was born on 1946 (1325 Iranian calender) in Tehran, Iran.
He started learning of classic music in
“Tehran opera” under supervision of Mrs. Evelin Baghcheban and Mr.
Samin baghche ban for 5 years when he was only 19. Then he was introduced to Mr.
Mohammad Owshal who was head of a folkloric jazz group and their friendship
helped him to learn harmony, accompaniment and other musical technics that Bayat
was interested in.
Since childhood, his friendship with Iraj Jenati Attaei, who was a great
poet, song lyrist and play writer had great effect in his life. During the
years, they could produce many unforgettable Iranian songs like KOOCHE BONBAST
(dead end alley), KHOONE (home), SAYE (shade), TAPESH (beat) and many other
songs.
Babak Bayat started composing film music for the movie GHARIBE (unknown)
with cooperation of Mr. Varouzhan and continued to compose for the movies
KHORSHID DAR MORDAB (sun at lagoon), SHABE AFTABI (sunny night), BERAHNE TA ZOHR
(naked till noon), SORAT (speed), FARYAD ZIRE AAB (shouting under the water),
CHANGAK (gear) tv show, and many other movies.
After the Islamic Revolution of Iran he continued his music experience by
producing a music tape about Samad Behrangi’s
life and a music tape for
children called KHOROUS ZARY PIRHAN PARY. Then he produced two special cassette
tape for the Iranian famous poet, Ahmad Shamloo named SOKOUT SARSHAR AZ NA
GOFTEHAST (silence is full of unspokens) and CHIDAN SEPIDE DAM (to cut the
dawn).
After revolution, Babak Bayat started the music for a movie named MARGE
YAZDGERD (the death of
Yazdgerd) produced by Bahram Beizaei a famous Iranian
movie maker and continued to make music for many nominated and considered movies
like SHAYAD VAGHTI DIGAR (may be other time), MOSAFERAN (passengers), AROUS
(bride), PARDE AKHAR (last show), TELESM (talisman), MERCEDES, OTOBUS (bus),
GHERMEZ (red), DO-ZAN (two ladies), SHEIDA, SOLTAN VA SHABAN (king and shepherd)
tv show, VELAYATE ESHGH (land of love) and many others which are totally more
than 90 movies.
He was nominated many times as the best film music composer and received
the best Iranian prize, SIMORGH BOLOURIN on 1990 (1369) for the film AROUS and
on 1996 (1375) for movies SARZAMINE KHORSHID (the land of sun) and MARDI SHABIHE
BARAN (a man like rain). He also has been admired as best composer in many film,
music and art festivals and celebrations like “one hundred years of cinema in
Iran”.
Besides music composing, its more than 8 years that Bayat is teaching
“film music” in Tehran universities.
The death of his son, Mani which only gave a 10 years of sweet life to
him had a deep effect on Babaks life and art works, now he fortunately has two
sons named Barbad and Bamdad which both of them are studying music and one
daughter called Ghazal who is graduated in graphic and painting.
Babak proudly mentions about his wife who has provided him a happy and
calm life with comfort and convenience.
